About collective practice, playing with structures, hierarchies and
roles with Sara & Stefan from The Drawing Workshop
We met Annette, Sara and Stefan this summer in Berlin. Together with
others they are running the Drawing Workshop, a nomadic laboratory
for experimental collective art practice. They were doing a series of
workshops to experiment with collective methods in the
Raumerweiterungshalle, a selforganised space in Berlin Neukölln, or
in the framework of the Ladyfest. Their latest Workshop action was
“Enter the Diarama: a Life-Size 3 Dimensional Interactive Drawing”
happening over several days in Nijmegen in the Netherlands. This
weekend they even opened their own space, the Kotti Shop, a
“collectively run space for the exploration of collaborative art
praxis and experimental drawing”. The Workshops are ranging from
Zzzzine Making, archidrawing, collaborative collages, to large-scale
drawing and giant exquisite corpses. The general idea, however,
remains the same: to play with hierarchies, develop methods of
collective practice and to explore how collectivity can affect our
visual vocabulary.
On Sunday Sara and Stefan will talk about the diarama as a kind of
model and present a film and slide show. We will talk about concepts
of drawing as tool for collective praxis and collectivity as such,
Identity transformations & playing around with roles, building
structures & fucking with them…
